DISTRICT GOVERNOR
PAUL MAY
Lion Paul has been a member of the
Milledgeville Lions Club since March 1987. Lion
Joe Ben Thomson (deceased) was his sponsor
and good neighbor. As a Lion of twenty two
years in the Milledgeville club, he has been
president twice. Lion of the Year three times,
on the board of directors for twenty years and
chairman of their annual spaghetti supper
since 1990. He has been club treasurer for
the past eight years.
At the district level, Lion Paul has been
18F's treasurer for five years and has led the
district finance training classes three times. He has been certified as
a Guiding Lion for the new Eatonton Lions Club. Lion Paul was awarded
the International President's Awards in 2005 and the President's
Leadership Medal in 2010.
He graduated from GA. Tech in 1967 with a bachelor's
degree in mechanical engineering. As an
engineer he has worked for General Dynamics (F-111 aircraft), Fiber
Industries, and Engelhard. He and his wife went into business for
themselves in 1998. They owned American Fast Photo and imaging with
stores in Milledgeville, Dublin, Conyers and Sandersville. They closed
their last store in July 2008, but continue to work part time from their
home.
He and his wife Mary Anne Owens, were married the day
after he graduated from GA. Tech. They have two children: Chris in
Smyrna and Mary Beth in Asheville and three cats. Before moving to
Milledgeville in 1984, they lived in Texas, North Carolina and South
Carolina.
They are members of the First United Methodist Church
of Milledgeville. Paul is president and one of the teachers of his
Sunday School class. Over the years, he has been finance committee
chairman, council on ministry chairman, and currently is serving on the
board of trustees and the activities committee. He has been very active
in working on the two church's Habitat houses.
Lion Paul's hobbies are his Lions club, his church,
reading, hiking, photography and sailing one- design boats. He has been
on the board for four sailing clubs and served on numerous sailing
committees In the past he has enjoyed competitive sailboat racing
throughout the southeast.
Professionally he has worked for large corporations
and owned his own business. He has been on the board and treasurer of
Southeastern Photo Imaging Association for eighteen years. He has also
been on the board of the Milledgeville Chamber of Commerce.
Lion Paul looks forward to GROWING IN SERVICE as
district governor for his club, community, district and state.
